Steps below to remove mold from carpets

Carpets with mold or a musty odor should be removed completely.

Using a respirator, cut the carpet into small sections.

Mist the materials and flooring with water to help prevent the spread of airborne mold spores.

Wrap the carpet in plastic for disposal.

Use a HEPA-filter vacuum to thoroughly clean the area and allow to air dry for several days.

Safety glasses and respiratory protection are recommended

What if only a small portion of the carpet is affected by mold?

If only a small portion of the carpet has mold, you can cut and remove only the affected portion. When you are cutting the carpet or rug, be sure to cut an extra 12 inches on each side, beyond the moldy or wet part. You can then replace it with a new section of carpet, as long as you don’t mind the slight aesthetic difference of having a section that might not match perfectly with the rest.

What to do so that when the new carpet is laid, moisture and mildew do not reappear?

In these cases the moisture problem is likely to be due to water seepage or capillarity problems, so professional advice is needed. Get FREE information here.
